Help!  I hope to begin preparing the full version of the entry level hiring report soon--with specific information on PhDs by discipline, post-doc (fellowship and VAP) programs, date of JD, etc.  If you have an additional report, it would be very helpful if you could send it in before May 1.  Also, if your law school will not make an entry-level hire this year, please report that information.

I would especially appreciate reports (including "no entry-level hiring" reports) from Duke, Harvard, NYU, Stanford, the University of Chicago, the University of Michigan, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale.

If you must, send an email, but please understand that it will add to the already enormous amount of my time that this project consumes.

Please provide as much of the following information as you can in the following format:

Hiring Institution: Name of hire. First law degree, first law degree institution, first law degree year. Highest other graduate degree, highest other degree field, highest other degree institution, highest other graduate degree year. Post-doc position title, post-doc program type, post-doc program institution.

So here is a sample entry:

New York Law School: Jane Roe. JD, Yale, 2004. PhD, History, Harvard, 2001. Bigelow Fellow, Teaching Fellowship, Chicago.

Some further explanations:

Report only entry level hiring for tenure track positions. A candidate who is hired to a non-tenure track position should not be reported. A candidate who is moving from a non-tenure track position to their first tenure-track position should be reported.

I will compile statistics for U.S. law schools, but feel free to report hires to non-U.S. institutions that would be of interest to the readers of "Legal Theory Blog."

If the entry-level hire has multiple doctorates (e.g., two PhDs, a DPhil and an SJD) report them all. Otherwise, I will report only one highest other degree; in other words, I will not report a masters and a doctorate. If a candidate has two "first" law degrees (e.g., an LLB from a non-U.S. law school and a JD from a U.S. law school) report both.

Please use broad standard categories to describe the advanced degree field. For example, use "Political Science" rather than "Government," "Politics," or "Political Theory." Use "History" rather than "Latin American History" or "Legal History."

For first-law degrees from non-U.S. law schools, please report the actual degree awarded and not the U.S. equivalent. For example, report LLB not JD.

Post-doc programs include "Visiting Assistant Professorships," "Fellowships," and other programs that do not result in a degree but are intended to serve as a transition to full-time law teaching.

Post-doc program types. There are many variations, but try to use categories like the following: Teaching Fellowship, Research Scholar, Research & Teaching Fellowship, Visiting Assistant Professorship, Legal Writing Instructor.
