Today, our class unanimously (including me: a previous supporter) voted that Musical Socialism is a bad idea. There are way too many problems with the system, many of which were noted by Peter in 3 of his posts. If a class consisting mostly of supporters of the legalization of P2P filesharing (in some form or another) unanimously voted against Musical Socialism, it is very unlikely that anyone in congress would ever support the idea.
Unfortunately, it looks like we'll have to figure out another way that I can download all the songs I want while placing the burden of payment on the rest of society.
RIP Musical Socialism.
