Alan Wertheimer, who did pathbreaking work on many topics, including coercion and consent, passed away yesterday, April 10, 2015. Wertheimer was an emeritus professor at the University of Vermont, and visited at the Kennedy School at Harvard and the University of San Diego. His web page at Vermont is here and his Amazon.com page is here.
I had the privilege of reading Wertheimer's work and participating in academic conferences with him. He was a careful thinker, who did much to advance philosophical thinking on the topic of consent. His books Consent to Sexual Relations (Cambridge Studies in Philosophy and Law) and Exploitation are contemporary classics. Conversation with Wertheimer was always a great pleasure and a source of illumination and insight. He will be missed.
