Moritz Hennemann (University of Freiburg - Faculty of Law) has posted Multilateral Rules on Digital Trade, E-Commerce and Artificial Intelligence (Forthcoming in Herrmann/Chaisse (eds.), The Law of Economic Integration, OUP 2024) on SSRN. Here is the abstract:
The chapter provides an insight into the existing multilateral rules relevant for digital trade, electronic commerce and artificial intelligence. For this purpose, it discusses the significance of digital interactions in today's trading world, explains corresponding terms, highlights the objectives pursued, and addresses thereby current issues in global trade. The chapter presents the multilateral view and challenges in this regard. In particular, it focuses on the World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements, especially the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and the General Agreement on Trade in Services with respect to digital interactions. Advantages and disadvantages are mapped. Finally, the chapter points to current trends and debates, especially the current WTO e-commerce negotiations.
